Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to include a photocopy of the health care card and birth certificate? Yes, please attach a copy of the campers birth certificate and health care card. If needed hospitals like to see a copy of the health care card not just the number.

How many kids do you take for camp?  Each camp we take approximately 65 campers.  They are than divided into smaller groups for the week.  Each group consists of 8-12 campers and there are 2 counselors for each Basic group (first year)  and one counselor for Advanced group (second year).  With support staff and counselors our ratio is about 3 campers to 1 staff member.

How do I know that my kid is in the camp? Once camp has reached it's capacity for that year, you will be sent a confirmation letter stating that your child is in the camp and made aware of which week they were accepted. You will also be sent a pamphlet of expectations, what to bring, what we do and how to get there with contact information to the camp. No news is good news, just look for the information package in the mail.

How come my camper cannot bring a phone, what if there is an emergency?  Our belief at the camp is that the camper is coming to learn and grow some independence. They are learning important safety skills, as well as building relationships with others that share the same interest with them and need their full attention on what is going on at the camp, due to the nature of the programming. If you need to get a hold of your child, please call the camp, leave a message with the person that answers the phone and indicate if it is an emergency.  We do not need to know the nature of the emergency, just say it is an emergency. You can also get a hold of the Director via text or phone and this contact information will be on the pamphlet.

What if there is an Emergency with my child or at the Camp?  Due to the nature of the programming we are dealing with weather, nature and firearms. There are emergency protocols in place for this.  If something happens where medical assistance is necessary you will be notified as soon as possible and the proper measures will be implemented to ensure the upmost safety of the student(s).

Where is my child sleeping? This is an Outdoor camp. The majority of their time is spent outdoors, including experiencing sleeping in a tent.  These are outfitter tents, so a small camp cot is suggested, however due to space, only a small camp cot is possible.  For the last night of camp the campers get to experience the outdoors and get to sleep in a lean-to that they build.  It makes for a fun and eventful experience.

Why do I need to fill out all of the information? This is an important step. We require the information provided to fill out paperwork for government regulated forms, for emergency medical purposes and to make sure they have the right size of a t-shirt at the end of the week.

How come my kid can only come for two years?  This program is based on a two-year cycle, if you are attending.  First years get their Hunter Training Safety Course, Boater Safety, Firearm Safety, Canoeing instruction, Firearms instruction, Archery instruction and Basic Outdoor skills. When campers come back a second year, campers get the Narrow Lake Restricted Firearm instruction, Advanced Outdoor skills and Leadership skills.  These, each year, are run the same and there is little to no variation to programming.  If your child would like to come back, that is fine, however, it is the same.

What will my child do? There is a itenerary posted everyday on the whiteboard. At the end of the week, Friday, they have their outdoor overnight program, where they go to a remote site, build a lean-to and experience the wilderness. Then Saturday is our competition day, Saturday afternoon is BBQ with parents and families before pick up.

What if my child would like to be a counselor? How can I do this? Second year (advanced campers) participate in various activities throughout the week, observed and then discussed upon. Director and Managers choose candidates to become counselors, and then are asked to become counselors. Just because you attended the second year of camp, does not mean that you automatically become a counselor.
